Ubuntu African choir visit brings joy to our community

Graduates of the African Children’s Choir shared their poignant life stories through song, masterful drumming and dance with the St Pius X College community during May.

The College was fortunate to host the Ubuntu Choir’s 14 young performers, chaperones and crew from Kenya and Uganda.

The highlight was a spectacular evening concert where over 200 guests were entertained by these beautiful young men and women who have embraced and revived their own lives through singing and dancing.

As an Edmund Rice school, St Pius X College supports and partners with Edmund Rice schools in South East and West Africa so hosting the Choir and event provided a wonderful opportunity for our boys and community to interact, support and experience other cultures. Once again the young men of St Pius X College rose to the challenge of reaching out and learning from their interaction with our UBUNTU guests. The key message to our students was to “listen to the story of the other” and ‘be men of action when they see a need’.

The talented performers from 'UBUNTU' also lead Year 6 students in an African drumming and dance workshop and a Masterclass with the College Choir before partaking in a friendly soccer game and meal with students, parents and teachers.

Our gratitude to the many staff and parents who provided this opportunity for our community as we continue to broaden the horizons of our young men.
