College hosts visiting Chinese Education Delegation

The College was honoured to host a visiting Chinese delegation of education officials from Zhanjiang in Guangdong province.

Representatives from the Zhanjiang Education Bureau, Foreign Affairs & Overseas Chinese Affairs Bureau and two schools toured St Pius X, were welcomed at a College Assembly and met with staff and students.

College Captain and Mandarin student, Joe Unwin, spoke in Mandarin when he welcomed the delegates at the whole school Assembly. Year 11 and Year 10 Mandarin students then accompanied the delegates as they toured the College and visited classrooms and workshops.

Customary gifts were exchanged to observe the occasion. College Principal Mr John Couani presented our guests with the College tie, symbolic of binding friendship and was presented with Chinese tea from Guangdong Province, a gift of good health.

In September twenty nine students and staff will visit China on the biannual Chinese Language and Cultural Immersion Tour.
